How I feel about sex scandals and politics...
So, with all this Herman Cain hullabalu and his sex scandals people are still supporting him. I’ve seen people say “why do sex scandals matter? Let’s talk politics!” This really grinds my gears and I’ll tell ya why.
Sex scandals show a person’s character. Let’s put it this way: a cheater is someone who is a liar, unfaithful, disloyal, and easily persuaded to abandon someone they were once passionate about. Are these characteristics we want in a president? Someone who has the ability to hide something from the one person they’ve promised to love forever and they betray them so easily? When someone cheats on their partner they know that person inside and out, how am I supposed to trust someone that doesn’t even know my name or my face or what I stand for? It is easier to deceive people if you don’t know them, so when they deceive their longtime partner I’m supposed to just push that aside and say “Yes, please lead my country! I trust you!” No. That’s not going to happen. I will question their judgement, their intentions, and their credibility.
I am a democrat and I feel the same way about Bill Clinton’s sex scandal. While I do think he was an excellent president I still question his reliability. Having a president is like being in a relationship. We’re supposed to trust them even when they’re doing things privately and really without our consent. So, why am I supposed to support someone who couldn’t even keep a promise to their partner?
With Herman Cain there are also the cases of sexual assault against him. I don’t understand how anyone can continue to support him after those were brought to the public. I will never vote for someone that says “She lied! I didn’t assault her! Women are liars!” That is the worst thing a person can say to someone who has been sexually assaulted “I don’t believe you.” What does that do for our current rape culture that is so destructive? It really encourages victim blaming and the idea that women are willing to say anything just to get money. This sickens me. How can people still support someone who is so obviously anti-women? Everyone has a mother. Everyone knows a woman. What happens when its you or a friend that is sexually assaulted and no one believes you or them?
A vote for Herman Cain is really a vote against women.
